The Yasnaya Polyana Literary Prize supports the traditions of classical and current trends in modern Russian literature.

The jury of the award, headed by the great-great-grandson of the writer Vladimir Ilyich Tolstoy, includes well-known Russian writers, literary critics and public figures. At different times, Dmitry Danilov, Maria Stepanova, Olga Slavnikova, Narine Abgaryan, Alexander Grigorenko, Guzel Yakhina, Evgeny Vodolazkin, Alexey Ivanov, Mikhail Tarkovsky, Roman Senchin became laureates of the prize at different times.

The prize is awarded for the best art work of a traditional form in four categories:

- Modern Russian Prose
- Foreign Literature
- Missed Masterpieces
- Personality of the Year

Samsung Special Prize Readers' Choice marks the author of the book, which scored the largest number of votes based on the results of an open readership online voting. Voting is made from a short list of nominations Contemporary Russian prose.
